Methodology

Software recognition

• We query HMRC’s live finder at https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/find-making-tax-digital-income-tax-software/ as an agent choosing “show a list of all available software”.
• We store the product name, HMRC price flag, software type, submission type and income sources exactly as shown.
• We do not invent products. If a vendor is missing, check the live HMRC finder — recognition status changes.
• Vendor retail pricing is not scraped in v1 (HMRC only exposes Free/Paid). Affiliate links, when added, will be labelled.

Thresholds & deadlines

• Copied from GOV.UK guidance pages listed on each tracker page, with last-checked dates.
• We do not interpret edge cases (exemptions, joint property, partnerships timeline).

Refresh cadence

• scripts/refresh.py re-scrapes HMRC/GOV.UK sources and rebuilds the static site data files.
• Intended daily routine on the operator box; changelog diffs vs the previous snapshot.

Commercial disclosure

• Featured listings and newsletter sponsors will be clearly labelled.
• Paying does not buy a higher organic rank in the tracker table (default sort is alphabetical by HMRC name).
